  • Volunteer instructor for the American Red Cross
  • Teaches adult, child and infant CPR as well as AED (difibilator) use.
  • KHSAA requires American Red Cross CPR training for layperson/coach (every year).
  • States there is a 30 grace period that American Red Cross recognizes
  • States he has known Jason Stinson since 1988 and that he also knows Jon Heck
  • Shown course sheet for 7/12/08
  • States that anyone who may have attended July 12, 2008 certification would expire 8/20/08
  • States a renewal course lasts about 2 hours
  • He recounts the day's events on the day that he taught Jason Stinson his renewal class at Waggener. He vividly recalls the day due to a car accident.
  • States does not instruct the importance of dialing 911 in the particular class Jason Stinson attended.
  • Cardiac arrest and signs and symptoms of stroke would be considered life threatening.
  • Teaches to secure the scene first. Then describes check, call, care procedure.
  • He clarifies that call could be for assistance from others around as well as dialing 911.
  • Agrees if you are alone then you should dial 911, but if others around he would call for their help.
  • He agrees that you would want the highly trained person involved instead of a bystanders.

  • Presented with a scenario of what to do if he was to come upon someone who had collapsed and their eyes were rolled back in their head and he stated he wasn't comfortable answering that question.
  • When asked if he would agree that if someone is unresponsive you should call 911 immediately he again answered that he wasn't comfortable answer that question.
  • He agrees that 911 should be called in an emergency.
  • He is told (not asked) that when someone is unresponsive and their eyes are rolled back in their head it is an emergency. Isn't It!
  • He responds by saying "again I would have to know the whole situation" and stated he was uncomfortable answering the question.
  • He describes people who present false symptoms, people who are drunk, not wanting to participate, or even a panic attack.
  • He states there are times that someone has collapsed that it may not be an emergency situation.
  • Continues to refuse to say he would call 911 immediately. Citing the he doesn't know the entire situation.
  • Prosecution seems to be badgering the witness to get him to say that you should always call 911 immediately.

  • Agrees that with heat exhaustion you would access the situation, then attempt to cool the person with any means necessary, and then if the person is not responding then and only then you would dial 911.
